Is watercolour harder than acrylic?

It's debatable whether using watercolour is harder, it's like comparing apples with oranges. They are two totally different types of paint.

This is a compicated question. Simply answered:

'Since acrylic colours are opaque and the paint is naturally thicker, it's easy to paint over mistakes and fix errors. Unlike watercolour paint, acrylic paint stains any surface that it dries on.'

Additionally, your pencil marks will not show through in a general picture painting process and they are quick drying and can be used on paper, canvas and wood.

Watercolours are translucent, some more that others, so in a standard painting picture situation you would tend to layer your colours and pencil marks will show through.

Ask yourself and few questions.

  1.  Visualize the end result and work backwards.
  2. What is the subject that you have chosen?
  3. Do you have a style of how you will paint such as controlled of more free flowing?

Take a look at paintings you like in books and in the internet and if any of them resonate with you.

Below are some I have painted.

Keep safe and keep painting, love Nicola
