Can I learn watercolor by myself?

A common question and the answer is, Yes, BUT...

Plenty of books, videos, and TV programmes are all readily available and many are free.

However, ask yourself these questions first before you see something that fills you need straight away:

How motivated am I to learn, especially if there is a cost involved ?
If I visualise a finished painting I did, what would it look like? What would the subject be and the style ?
Can I go to a physical class or must it be via the internet ?
Are watercolours the right medium for me? Am I someone with patience and a curious nature ?

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, what are my needs in a student teacher relationship? How were my art lessons as a child then, and what do I need now?

All quite heavy stuff, but if you take the time to answer honestly, you may save a lot of time and money.
